To Bob Morton, President,
Best Graphics, Inc. --
We had an important client
who needed to produce a book that was too big for the stitcher we had. Eric
Delzer asked that I and Mike Golownia, our bindery foreman, shop and evaluate
stitchers. We went to Graph Expo to get a close look at what the market offered.
We saw the 368AS at your booth and were really impressed. It had as much or
more capability as anything else we saw.
After visiting a local printer who had a 368 and flying out to California
to see another of your customers, we decided to buy the Osako. Your giving
us a nice show discount also helped.
The availability of rapid parts and service was a key. As it turned out, your
training and support have been outstanding.
We rushed you to get the machine installed, since we had a big project waiting.
You really came through for us and got us going in little more than a week.
(I recall that you and your people were here just about every day.) Best of
all, we were able to run the job and deliver it on time.
8 pockets and 2 hand feed stations give us terrific versatility. On some jobs,
we stagger the feed timing, running some pockets at half-speed for difficult
signatures. Another project is a sixteen-station job. By doing pre-gathering,
we're able to run it through a second time -- very efficient! The machine
has plenty of capacity to handle the thick signatures.
I really like the cover deck. It can run anything from heavyweight cover to
a 60-LB offset sheet, score and fold it and have it come out perfectly square.
We even use it to fold some difficult signatures for other printers, like
a newsprint 24-pager folded to create a 48-pager.
The automation is definitely a plus. It really helps speed the setups on the
wide variety of stocks and sizes we run. You just push a couple of buttons
and away you go.
The Osako's speed is excellent, but we seldom push it to the top end. We run
more slowly, often with 3 operators. To keep 8 pockets going, we'd need an
operator at every station to keep up with the machine.
An outstanding feature -- the individual air pumps generate plenty of vacuum
to feed both heavy and lightweight signatures. No pocket is starved for vacuum
with this system.
The 368 is ruggedly built and designed to eliminate maintenance. For example,
most of the lube points are permanently sealed, needing no lubrication, so
there's not a lot to do. Adjustments are all on the front, so you don't have
to run around to the back of the machine for access.
Bob, your support has been phenomenal. With your training, both our experienced
and inexperienced operators really picked up the machine quickly. You've responded
to us same day or next day every time we called. The few times we've needed
parts, you shipped the same day.
We've purchased other equipment from you in the past, both old and new. I
would certainly not hesitate to do business with you again!
Sincerely,
Dale Lauersdorf, Assistant Plant Manager
